Noah 4.jpg

Pianist and collaborator Noah Stone prioritizes emotional expression and interpersonal connection in their playing. They infuse their prior experience as a violinist and vocalist into their work, creating a sound with direction, depth, and purpose. Noah is comfortable on both a local and international stage, performing everywhere from community fundraisers to Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Their programs display a love for both traditional and modern repertoire, with a focus on broadening the canon to represent and welcome new audiences.

Noah has presented solo recitals at Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL, and in their hometown of Jacksonville, FL. As a two-time finalist for the John Leatherwood Concerto Competition with the Northeast Florida Symphony Orchestra, they performed movements of concerti with piano accompaniment for audiences in Niceville, FL. Noah’s experience with chamber music began in Italy, where they performed for audiences in Piobbico and Urbino as part of a string trio formed at the Brancaleoni International Music Festival in 2018. Since then, they have enjoyed exploring works such as Bohuslav Martinů’s La revue de cuisine as a part of an Advanced Performance Seminar in New Music at Florida State University and Albin Fries’ Piano Quintet No. 2 (2008) with colleagues in the Sprezzatura Quintet at Florida State University.

In his work, Noah explores the possibilities of piano sounds by performing music by emerging composers in addition to the traditional repertoire. Recent collaborations include premieres of Isaac Barzso’s billow (2019) for “Concert: New Electro-Acoustic Music” at Florida State University, Lila Reeser’s Elemental, and Joi Harper’s Affirmations for Composers of the African Diaspora Class Recital at the Longy School of Music at Bard College. Noah believes that music is for everyone, and therefore, it should represent everyone. Noah is continually working to inspire permanent diversity in their field by programming and advocating for works by historically underrepresented composers.

Noah believes that part of being a performer is giving back to the community. From 2017-2021, they served as vice president of Space Coast Music Project, Inc., a Florida-based non-profit organization that uses classical performances to raise money for local charities. As both an organizer and performer, they enjoy creating events that allow them to share music with others while also creating donations to and awareness of good causes. In 2020, due to the impossibility of presenting live concerts, they brought awareness to community organizations by hosting a remote concert to benefit the Jacksonville Urban League’s Center for Advocacy and Social justice.

Noah holds a Bachelors of Music in Piano Performance from Florida State University, where they studied with Read Gainsford, Stijn De Cock, and David Kalhous, and a Masters of Music in Piano Performance, where they studied with Spencer Myer. Currently, they are pursuing their Graduate Performance Diploma at Longy School of Music of Bard College with Eri Nakamura.  In their spare time, Noah enjoys running, 70s rock music, and spending time at the beach (with plenty of sunscreen).
